Full room layout and interior Design

Customer profile and brief

A professional couple with a blank canvas and a need for a multi-use home office space.  They wanted a home office space that got them excited to work from.

The requirements from the customer

  • Re-use some original furniture if possible

  • Permanent office desk and temporary additional desk

  • Plenty of storage

  • Bold decor - free rein on colour choice, but liked the idea of strip panelling

Design Process

During the on-site consultation I learnt that the customer was a nail technician and the additional "temporary desk" was to allow her to do her clients nails without having to change the main use of the room.  They needed the transformation from home office to nail salon to be minimal.

I also found that the room was used to store some fold away chairs and a seating bench for the dining area for those all important calendar family events like Christmas.

The design I created allowed the couple to store the items mentioned above, along with ample storage for life admin and nail supplies.  I was also able to reuse a bookcase and the original office drawers.  And as per the brief, a bold design.

Final Delivery

This space was a lot of fun to create.  Being able to have free rein on the colour choice and present to the customer was very exciting.  Especially as they hadn't considered yellow as a colour, or to have the desk/storage units painted.

I delivered

  • End to end project management including procurement

  • Bespoke desk/storage units

    • the bookcase was cut and up-cycled to create the shelving on top of the desk.

    • The back was left off to allow the wallpaper to pop through

    • Shelf lights were added

    • I up-cycled the original office drawers by painting them, replacing the handles and feet to match the 3 cupboard storage

    • I sourced the cupboard storage from sale items and painted it to match

    • The desk was created to run the length of the room providing space for a monitor and printer.  Along with a keyboard shelf and cable tray

  • Shelving was added to the walls for additional filing boxes and anything else the customer needed

  • Space was left at the end of the desk to allow for the fold away chairs and a hook was added to the bookcase for the nail salon lamp

  • I sourced a swivel desk to enable that all important temporary space for my customer to do nails

  • Panelling was installed as requested

  • Navy bold floral wallpaper and mustard yellow made up the colour scheme with a teal green to finish off the desk/storage units.
